Documentation checked: 26 October 2026. JOI provides chat alongside visual creation tools. Our assessment is based on the published help centre; we have not independently evaluated a premium membership.

Is JOI a good choice for visual AI companions?

JOI is worth investigating if your main interest is creating and refining character-related images. Its help centre gives unusually specific guidance about the generation interface: users can choose styles and poses, provide negative prompts, adjust resolution and decide whether creations stay private or are shared. These are practical controls, but they do not establish the accuracy, consistency or visual quality of the generated results.

The biggest trap is interpreting the free image allowance as a renewable monthly quota. It is not described that way.

The six-image limit and seven-day storage

According to JOI’s official media guide, free accounts receive six image generations for the lifetime of the account. The guide also says those generations are stored for seven days, so users are instructed to save wanted outputs before they expire. Six lifetime generations means, for example, that using all six to compare styles on day one leaves no new free allowance on day eight.

Action What the documentation says What remains unknown without checkout
Free gallery image Six total lifetime free generations Whether promotional allocations change
Generated free image storage Seven-day retention in the documented flow Retention terms for every other paid media type
Generate from a specific character Uses Neurons, not the free image quota Cost per request at the current tier
Advanced settings Certain features consume Neurons Which selected settings increase the price
Batch generation Up to 12 images can be requested at once Total Neurons charged for that combination

JOI calls its spendable currency Neurons. The public help documents that some advanced options and character-specific generation cost Neurons, but the articles reviewed do not provide a dependable universal price per image or video. It would be misleading to fill this review with invented £ amounts or pretend that every generation has the same charge.

What to check before spending Neurons

Start in Gallery → Create with a harmless, non-explicit prompt. Choose a style, create one image and note the quality at the displayed resolution. Try the same prompt with a changed pose or negative prompt. Before any paid generation, take note of the displayed Neuron debit and whether extra settings change it. The test measures prompt control, not a guaranteed result for every character.

For privacy, the tool offers settings to keep results private or share them with a community. Confirm the selected setting before generating material. Do not assume a private gallery means the operator has no access to data; consult its privacy terms for that question.

Languages and age verification

JOI’s help centre lists English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese and Portuguese as selectable interface languages. It explicitly says English is the most fully supported option, so a menu translated into French, German or Spanish is not proof of equivalent text or voice quality. Independent conversational-language testing has not been performed here.

Unlike this non-explicit editorial website, JOI itself says it is an adults-only platform and may require age verification for certain access or in particular regions. Its help page names VerifyMyAge as its verification provider and says possible checks range from background checks to facial estimation or identity documents. Do not send identity documents through informal support emails. A reader following our link should expect requirements to depend on location.

Billing and refund cautions for UK users

JOI states that activated subscriptions are generally non-refundable, with defined exceptions such as proven card fraud or certain accidental Neuron purchases. For a mistaken Neuron purchase, it says refunds can depend on whether the credits were already used. We have not verified a stable GBP price list or a UK-specific checkout, so check the subscription’s full renewal total and any Neuron pack charge before confirming.

Our verdict: worth exploring for image controls and a small free sample. Not suitable for someone expecting a recurring six-image free allowance, unlimited gallery storage or a known flat cost for every visual feature. People primarily interested in straightforward documented coin calculations may find OurDream easier to budget from the information publicly available.
