GirlfriendGPT vs JOI AI: start with the experience, not the marketing image
GirlfriendGPT is a stronger candidate for readers browsing and building story-driven characters. JOI AI is especially worth evaluating if a gallery and image-generation workflow is your main interest. Both include character interactions, and neither has been established here as an objective quality leader. The most useful comparison is between each service’s documented account rules and the tasks you intend to perform.
Character writing and roleplay: where GirlfriendGPT differs
GirlfriendGPT offers a publicly visible character creation route and a catalogue oriented toward roleplay scenarios. Its terms describe limited free usage—examples include two or three created characters and roughly 10–20 total messages—before additional credits or a paid plan are needed. These figures are examples in its terms, not a guaranteed current free allowance for every new account.
For paid users, GirlfriendGPT’s June 2026 terms describe 5,000 to 20,000 message credits per month depending on tier, with credits resetting rather than rolling over. This matters if you write intensively on weekends and hardly use the account during the week: the monthly allowance is a ceiling, not prepaid permanent currency. The policy also includes account, user-content and prohibited-impersonation restrictions. Do not turn user-created characters into a claim that any identity or third-party image can be reused freely.
Gallery tools: JOI’s documented free experiment
JOI’s help centre explains a concrete first task: open Gallery → Create, write a prompt, adjust art style, negative prompt, generation count and resolution, then generate. Free accounts receive six lifetime image generations, which the help article says are stored for seven days. If you plan to keep the result, save the permitted file during that window.
Some JOI controls are paid and can cost Neurons; generating an image or video based on a particular character also uses Neurons rather than the free general generations. This distinction is more actionable than treating every gallery example as included. The article documents up to twelve images per batch, but that UI option is not proof that twelve outputs are free.

How to run a useful comparison without buying both plans
On GirlfriendGPT, create a clearly fictional adult persona with a mundane goal: planning a weekend bookshop trip. Ask the character to maintain a consistent voice over several short exchanges. Record when the free messages stop and what the next screen asks you to buy. Note whether the scenario can be edited or restarted without losing your work. Do not enter identifying information about real people.
On JOI, start with a benign prompt such as an illustrated traveller under an umbrella. Choose a style, then repeat with a single change and inspect the actual generation cost. Before using a free generation, note which settings require Neurons. Check the privacy/share setting, export option and seven-day retention described for free results. These tests measure usability and actual allowances; they cannot rank conversation quality against image quality on a single scale.
What a UK customer should inspect before renewal
For GirlfriendGPT, read the cancellation and refunds sections rather than assuming unused message credits can be refunded. Its terms say recurring payments can be cancelled before rebilling and explain that refunds are generally limited, subject to applicable local law. For JOI, check the current Neuron package, plan renewal and retention rules inside your account; the image help article does not provide enough information for an authoritative GBP monthly price. Neither of those payment routes has been checked here using a UK card.
Our decision
Choose GirlfriendGPT for a character-discovery and narrative-writing trial, but judge the value of the monthly, non-carrying message allowance for your actual reading habits. Choose JOI for a tightly scoped visual-generation trial, using its published six free image generations to understand the interface. If your priority is both rich roleplay and continuous visual creation, you may ultimately need a matched paid test; the documents do not establish a combined winner.
